Exacum is the annual species of Exacum grown in the greenhouse as a flowering pot plant. It is commonly known as the German or Persian violet and has flowers up to 1.3 cm across. This beautiful blue or white flowered plant has exploded into popularity as a pot plant in just a few years. When in flower Exacum also has a mild fragrance, Exacum is seed propagated and can be germinated over a wide range of temperatures. This plant requires light for germination.

Growing and Maintenance Tips:

Temperature - Don't expose exacum to cold drafts. Maintain plants at temperatures from 65° to 80°F ( 18° to 27°C) for best interior performance. Information is not available on the maximum shipping duration that these plants will tolerate. Location - Interior light is acceptable. Irrigation - Keep plants moist at all times but don't overwater. Water only as soil becomes dry to the touch. The flowers will die if plants are allowed to wilt. Grooming - Remove individual flowers as they die to promote opening of the remaining buds and continued flowering. Light - Provide light levels of 50 to 100 fc for acceptable plant quality and bud opening. Plants will do well at higher light levels, but avoid full sun since leaf and flower scald may occur.
